HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA

GENERAL INFORMATION

Dear Parents,

I would like to take this time to invite your student to participate in the San Bernardino County Music Educator’s Association High School Honor Orchestra. Every year, this county organization, supported by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, organizes honor groups for music students at all levels. Some of the most talented musicians representing numerous schools in the county will meet together and rehearse a number of pieces, which they will then perform at the University of Redlands Chapel. This is a great opportunity for all students and an honor for the students selected to participate as well as a great networking opportunity allowing these students to start to get to know students from other schools with whom they will probably participate in numerous other orchestras.

  • Rehearsal Dates:
    • Saturday, February 15th, 2025 - 1pm-5pm
    • Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 - 1pm-5pm

  • Dress Rehearsal:
    • Saturday, March 1st, 2025 - 12:30pm-2:30pm

  • ​If you are selected for the High School Honor Orchestra, you MUST attend all rehearsals and stay for the entire rehearsal, which means you cannot arrive late or leave early. Please do not audition if you already know that you cannot attend a rehearsal, or will need to leave a rehearsal early or arrive to a rehearsal late. To protect the quality of the group, and keep it far to those who have made a commitment to the rehearsal schedule, there will be NO exceptions to this rehearsal policy.

  • Audition Date: Saturday January 25th, 2025
  • AUDITION TIME SLOTS: Times of auditions are e-mailed to directors.
  • Location: Rodriguez PREP Academy (1985 Guthrie St N, San Bernardino, CA 92404)

AUDITION GUIDELINES
Scales:
Two major scales, one bow per pitch, up to 4 sharps or 4 flats (tempo of 110-120). You will be scored out of 8 points for 2 octaves and 15 points for 3 octaves. To place higher, play three octave scales!

Audition Music:
Audition materials will be available below Please stress the importance of the prepared pieces as they are weighted heavier than the other categories.

Sightreading:
Students will be asked to sight-read an excerpt of music selected by the adjudicator.

AUDITION FEES ($10 per audition)

Option 1: Pay with 

1. On your parking website or app, click "Send money with Zelle."
2. Add or select recipient. Search "[email protected]" and it should come up as SBCMEA.
3. Select the exact payment amount. For fees, it is $10 per audition
4. IMPORTANT: In the "Memo (Optional)" field, please indicate your school and which honor group/event.
5. Review and send.
6. SBCMEA is notified.
